Softening

10/6/2013

Picture
Softening is an inspiring true story about a brave family faced with the life adjustment of raising a disabled child.
When their son is born with an undeveloped brain, due to an inutero influenza, director Kelly O'Brien and her husband embrace it like no others. It does not ask for sympathy but asks you to look at their family and understand their growth and development as a whole. Softening, as O'Brien points out, refers to the change that takes place. “It does not refer to a change in personality, but only makes you more of what you already are. My husband has become kinder.”

This film is heart-wrenching in its ability to express the endless capacity for this family's love for one another. It is a beacon of hope for those faced with difficult circumstances and a fresh and inspiring perspective that we can all learn from.
